ORTHOTICS
What are Orthotics?
Orthotics are custom moulded corrective inserts that when worn in your shoes can relieve and prevent a host of problems that range from Plantar Fasciations, Ankle, Knee, Hip and Low Back Pain. Why do feet need to be corrected? Not everyone needs Orthotics. The majority of people who would benefit from Orthotics have pronated feet (often called flat feet). The ligaments of the feet take a pounding over the years on hard floors and concrete surfaces. This leads to a stretching of some ligaments of one or both of the natural arches of the foot. Just as a misalignment on the front end of your car can lead to excessive wear on the tires, misaligned feet can cause excessive strain to the feet, knees, hips, and low back Females wearing high heels are especially prone to this along with the formation of bunions. Males are not immune to these problems either. Mechanical foot problems can occur at any age but symptoms such as calluses, bunions, hammertoes, claw toes are more common as we age. Orthotics are corrective devices and as such can reverse some or all of the mechanical stresses and strains. How do we evaluate the feet? A computerized static and dynamic Gait Scan Analysis is performed along with a physical examination of the feet and knees in weight bearing and non-weight bearing positions. ![]() How are the Orthotics made? A non-weight bearing mould is taken of the feet with the feet positioned in ideal neutral position. The moulds are sent to the Orthotic lab and scanned with lasers to create the ideal shape for your feet. Various modifications are added based on each individuals needs. |
